The RESEARCH ENTERPRISE is the major mode of communication from the IUPUI Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (R&SP). The ENTERPRISE is published monthly, distributed by e-mail, and contains time sensitive research information as well as links to information on grants and contracts, funding opportunities, research compliance, and research centers. ANNOUNCEMENTS

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION WORKSHOP AT BUTLER UNIVERSITY: On October 5, 2007, the National Science Foundation (NSF), Butler University, and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation will host a one-day workshop on the NSF proposal and merit review process and NSF programs that cut across disciplines. Representatives from the seven NSF directorates and the Office of International Science and Engineering will provide information on their programs and will be available, in breakout sessions, to discuss potential research proposals. NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH (NIH) REGIONAL SEMINAR: On June 19-20, 2008, The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) will host a two-day NIH Regional Seminar, which is intended to provide information about the NIH funding process from opportunity identification and application preparation to post award administration. Presentations are targeted toward research administrators, new and experienced investigators, postdoctoral fellows and trainees. Opportunities will be available for informal interactions between seminar participants and NIH grants management, program, policy, and review staff. NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH NEWSLETTERS: An electronic newsletter entitled "From the Desk of Dr. Elias Zerhouni", Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is available on line. OCTOBER 15: DEADLINE FOR INTERNAL RESEARCH SUPPORT FUND GRANT (RSFG) APPLICATIONS

The IUPUI Research Support Funds Grant (RSFG) program is designed to enhance the research mission of IUPUI by supporting research projects and scholarly activities that are sustainable through external funding. The next Research Support Fund Grant (RSFG) application deadline is October 15, 2007. OCTOBER 15: DEADLINE FOR INTERNAL INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENTFUND (IDF) GRANT APPLICATIONS

UPDATES

MANDATORY USE OF THE ELECTRONIC FINANCIAL STATUS REPORT SYSTEM NIH eRA COMMONS: Beginning October 1, 2007, NIH will require all Financial Status Reports (FSRs) (domestic and foreign) to be submitted using the electronic FSR system located in the eRA Commons. This includes all initial FSRs being prepared for submission and any revisions being submitted or re-submitted to NIH.

IDENTIFYING FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Several on-line search tools are available to IUPUI investigators who are interested in identifying funding opportunities in their areas of interest. Several are listed below:

Community of Science (COS): COS is a primary on-line search tool for identifying funding opportunities. To take advantage of this powerful tool, register at http://www.cos.com/login/join.shtml. Once you have completed the short registration process, you can personalize your search by selecting the option entitled “launch your workbench”. You can access federal, local, corporate, foundation, nonprofit and other funding opportunities using key terms and save the results of up to 20 searches and have them delivered to you weekly via email.

National Institutes of Health (NIH) “NIH Guide”: To take advantage of this search tool, register at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/listserv.htm. It allows you to receive discipline specific funding opportunities that are delivered to you weekly via email.

National Science Foundation (NSF) “MyNSF”: To take advantage of this search tool register at http://www.nsf.gov/mynsf/. It allows you to receive discipline specific funding opportunities that are delivered to you weekly via email.

Federal Business Opportunities “FedBizOpps”: FedBizOpps is the single government point-of-entry for Federal government procurement opportunities over $25,000. To take advantage of this search tool, visit http://vsearch1.fbo.gov/servlet/SearchServlet. Opportunities found at this site include, but are not limited to, presolicitations and special notices for research and service contracts for specific projects and some national centers and surveys that would not be found in Grants.gov and may not be found in the Community of Science.

Limited Submission Funding Opportunities : Occasionally a funding agency places a limitation on the number of proposals that can be submitted from a campus or university system. Developmental Mechanisms of Human Structural Birth Defects (P01): Focus is on innovative, multidisciplinary, interactive, and synergistic projects that integrate basic, translational, and clinical approaches to understanding the developmental biology and genetic basis of congenital human malformations. Developmental Pharmacology (R01): Focus is on multidisciplinary, investigator-initiated basic and translational research in developmental pharmacology with particular emphasis on the role of ontogeny on drug metabolizing enzymes, transporters, receptors and signaling pathways activity across developmental periods from fetal life to adolescence. Exceptional, Unconventional Research Enabling Knowledge Acceleration (EUREKA) (R01): Focus is on exceptionally innovative research on novel hypotheses or difficult problems.
