Signature Centers Initiative Grant (SCI)

The Signature Centers Initiative (SCI) was begun in 2006 in an effort to create strong research units that are uniquely identifiable with IUPUI.  The centers were created as an integral part of the Academic Plan for IUPUI, with the goal that they will lead the way in world-class research and creative activities that will substantially enhance IUPUI’s reputation. With these aims in mind, a call for proposals in the Fall of 2006 resulted in a total of 19 center proposals selected for support.  As there was a great deal of interest and enthusiasm for the Signature Centers Initiative, and as the quality of the proposals submitted was very high, in 2007 it was decided to continue the development of Signature Centers across the IUPUI campus, by having another call for proposals.  This resulted in a total of 10 additional center proposals selected for support.  As of 2009, of the centers selected for support, 27 have remained, 17 from the round 1 and 10 from the round 2 call for proposals.   As the round 1 centers will complete their three year period of support by June 30, 2010, funds are anticipated to become available for the support of new center initiatives, starting July 1, 2010.   Therefore, this document constitutes a request for the submission of a third round of proposals under the Signature Centers Initiative.

Deadline: January 22, 2010

Research Support Funds Grant (RSFG)

The Research Support Funds Grant (RSFG) program is designed to enhance the research mission of IUPUI by supporting research projects and scholarly activities that are sustainable through external funding.

International Development Fund (IDF)

The IDF grant was developed to enhance the international research and scholarly activity focus of the IUPUI academic mission. Generally, the IDF grant serves as venture capital to stimulate additional funding for international research and scholarly activity, which have strong potential to generate indirect cost recovery from extramural sources.

Deadlines:  November 16 and April 15

IUPUI Arts and Humanities Internal Grant (IAHI)

The IAHI Grant Program exists to support campus-wide attainment of excellence in research and creative activity in arts and humanities. It is designed to enhance the research and creative activity mission of IUPUI by supporting research projects and scholarly activities that are conducted by arts and humanities faculty.   The program is intended to stimulate existing and new research and creative activity, and to support faculty in becoming competitive in securing external funding and sponsorship.

Deadlines:  November 2, 2009; March 1, 2010

Developing Diverse Researchers with InVestigative Expertise (DRIVE)

The Developing Diverse Researchers with InVestigative Expertise (DRIVE) program is designed to enhance the diversity and research and creative activity mission of IUPUI.  Faculty from underrepresented populations, normally defined as African-American, Latino-American, Native American, Pacific Islanders, and women are particularly encouraged to apply. The DRIVE program supports projects that have the potential for sustainability through external funding.

IUPUI International Visiting Research Scholars/Professors Support Program (IVRS)

The IUPUI International Visiting Research Scholars/Professors Support Program is designed to assist IUPUI faculty members and departments to invite faculty members from abroad for both research collaboration and instructional purposes to benefit students at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels. This program will enhance IUPUI’s internationalization efforts in both teaching and research. The purpose is to develop faculty capacity to teach with a global perspective.

Release Time for Research (RTR)

IUPUI maintains a robust research enterprise and has experienced a steady growth in external funding for the past ten years. However, one of the impediments to grant/contract development has been lack of adequate time to prepare proposals due to heavy teaching loads. The RTR internal funding mechanism will allow IUPUI faculty to “buy out” of teaching time to prepare grant/contract proposals for submission to external funding agencies.
